December Fun!

What a few weeks Primary 6 have had!

  • First, we went down to Primary 2/3 and did some paired reading to celebrate 'Book Week'. We had a ball!

  • Next, our fabulous Parent Council organised an amazing experience for us! A reindeer visited out school!! This is us all posing with the reindeer- we loved it!

  • Last but not least, we went on a trip to the Science Centre! During our trip, we watched a Christmas related Science Show which was excellent. The show had different types of experiments and explosions and taught us some interesting science facts.
  • After the show, we were allowed to explore all 3 levels of the Science Malls. We experienced various optical illusions, tested our speed and strength and much more. It was a fantastic day!

Primary 6 tackle a STEM challenge!

  • As part of our new topic, we have started to learn about Natural Disasters.
  • We were set a Engineering challenge to build an earthquake proof structure. There was lots of specific instructions such as height, resources etc.
  • When we had built our structure, we tested the weight it could hold using bags of rice (of different weights). Some of our structures 'survived'! :)
  • This challenged linked well to our 'Word of the Week' which is foundations.
  • We had lots of fun working together as well as working with children from P6/7.
Here are some photos of us in the building stages of the challenge:

Now take a look at some of the finished pieces...

  • We had an absolute ball completing this challenge and learned a lot about the importance of strong foundations and structures of buildings!

P6 Challenge-Build an Anderson Shelter

Primary 6 have started building model Anderson Shelters!
  • This week, Primary 6 worked in their 'Cooperative Learning Groups' and were given a challenge.
  • Their challenge was to plan, design and then create a model of an Anderson Shelter, which they learned about during our WW2 topic.
  • The children worked extremely well together, ensuring everyone was involved and every opinion was listened to. They then had to compromise to decide on their final ideas. They did this incredibly well!
Take a look at the children presenting their planning with their classmates :

Next, the children used 'junk' materials and began to build their designs:

We will upload some photos of the finished products!
